The GTX 1080 TI may very well be the new Titan of the GPU industry, at least when it comes to speed.
Released in early March with 11 GB of 11 Gbps DDR5X VRAM, the 1080 TI destroys the 1080 and gives the 12 GB of 10 Gbps DDR5x VRAM Titan X Pascal a run for its money. Improvements on the Pascal architecture push performance on the 1080 TI. Working with Micron, NVIDIA could push GGDR5 to 11 Gbps data, beyond what they could do for the previous gold standard, the Titan. These improvements are what allow the 1080 TI to run at a similar performance than the Titan X Pascal that has a slightly higher framebuffer.
NVIDIA has made improvements to the cooling system in the Founders Edition as well. With twice the cooling area, the 1080 TI is much quieter. The GTX 10 Series comes with Ansel combability right out of the box, which allows you to share your groundbreaking graphics with your friends with interactive 3D screenshots, or 4k+ still shots. Since its release, benchmarks have begun to confirm the claims made with the card. The consensus is that the 1080 TI roughly has a 40% increase in performance from the 1080, and performs similarly to the Titan X Pascal.
The 1080 TI scrapes by and pulls ahead of the Titan in terms of bandwidth and computing power, but barely. Still impressive for a card that’s actually a few hundred dollars cheaper than the Titan. Despite it performing better in certain aspects, the Titan X is still the best solution for specific workplace applications, while the 1080 TI gives gamers a more affordable option for their 4K+ and VR needs.
Pascal allows the GTX 10 Series to integrate seamlessly with VR. The 1080 TI features 3584 NVIDIA Cuda cores and 10 billion transistors, which allows you to get the power and performance you need for a graphically intense VR session. NVIDIA claims the 1080 TI has the lowest latency available with VR along with plug-and-play combability. NVIDIA made sure that Pascal was VR compatible and embraced the emerging technology in the architecture.
