PS5 Pro vs Custom Gaming PC
The new PS5 Pros were just released at the end of last year. One of the questions people are asking is: how does this compare to buying a budget gaming PC with similar specs? Today I will be going over the specs of the PS5 Pro, and I will also let you know the cost of a comparable custom gaming PC. I will also let you know about a similarly priced gaming laptop and its specs.
PS5 Pro Specs
Let’s start with the specs on the PS5 Pro. It has an 8-core processor (or CPU) with 16 threads inside from AMD. It has a graphics card (or GPU) that has 16 GB of video memory (or VRAM). It also has 2 GB of normal memory (or RAM). It also comes with a 2 TB SSD.
Overall, these are pretty good specs for a console. These are going to be the mobile or laptop versions of the CPU and GPU, so they will be outperformed by similar desktop PC versions. However, for the $700 price point (plus whatever taxes or possible shipping costs), this is a powerful gaming console.
Cost of a Comparable Gaming PC
For a similarly specced system from us, the price is going to be around $400 more expensive. This is going to be for both Intel and AMD CPUs. This will include a desktop CPU and GPU, which will outperform the mobile versions in the PS5 Pro like I mentioned earlier.
The Intel CPU is going to be a 13th Gen i5, and the AMD one will be a Ryzen 7 5000 series. The GPU is going to be a 3060 with 12 GB of VRAM. It will have more normal RAM at 8 GB. It has a 1 TB SSD and will come with Windows 11 Home on it.
If you did want to take out the Windows 11 key from us, you could spend that extra money on a 2 TB SSD instead and save a bit of money.
A Gaming Laptop Alternative
For around $100 more than the PS5 Pro, you can get a laptop from us that will have a Ryzen 7 8-Core CPU. It will also have a 4050 in it. It comes with 16 GB of RAM pre-installed. However, it does only have a 512 GB M.2.
While this is a decent gaming laptop, I believe that it would get significantly outperformed by the PS5 Pro.
Final Thoughts: Which Option is Best?
So, which is going to be the best option? For the price, the PS5 Pro is powerful and will only get outperformed by a PC that is going to be at least a few hundred dollars more expensive. If you are looking to spend the least amount of money, then the PS5 Pro is going to be the best option for you.
However, if you are willing to spend a bit more, then a gaming PC will outperform the PS5 Pro. Another thing to keep in mind: if you do get a PS5 Pro, the library of games is going to be more limited than if you went with a custom gaming PC. In addition, if you do want to play games online on the PS5 Pro, you will need to shell out some additional money every month for their subscription, with some exceptions like Fortnite or Warzone.
