The Best Mini ITX Cases for a Powerful Gaming PC Build

Hardware

Today, we’re going to be looking into the best Mini-ITX cases for a mini PC build. A small build will not always encapsulate the most powerful gaming PC. The cases are there for a reason though. For anyone who would like a mini gaming PC, a Mini-ITX gaming build is approachable these days.

Why Build a Mini Gaming PC

I’m a big fan of mini PC builds for the size alone. It highly benefits those who live in a compact space, or those who would like to keep their PC on their desk. It’s a similar size range as most modern gaming consoles. The portability allows the PC to be brought wherever, whenever (with anti-static preparation in mind.) I imagine those that like to run LAN parties with their friends would enjoy how easy it is to move a small PC.

Considerations and Limitations of Mini PCs

The major limitation of mini gaming PCs is the space. There will always be less room for additional parts like storage. Also, Mini-ITX motherboards tend to be very limited unless you pay the cost for high end features. These builds are easiest if you have one GPU alone and would like two SSDs at most. They may be appealing for those trying to avoid the usual large desktop.

Top Mini PC Cases for your next custom PC

Cooler Master MasterBox NR200/NR200P V2

The Masterbox NR200 variants are a classic for Mini-ITX gaming builds. They have room for up to 240/280mm AIOs. there are options for a vertical mounted GPU on a riser cable. Also, there are slots for the usual horizontal PCIe configuration. These cases have removable panels on each side. This allows you to access what you need without having to take the whole PC apart. I will say, in a custom build, the whole case needs torn down to the frame. This would be for the installation of the main components and later cable management. This case is available in white and black options. Check out my article on my favorite white PC cases for a broad look into that color scheme!

SilverStone SUGO 15

SilverStone offers quite a few options for Mini-ITX builds. My favorites include the SUGO 15/17. The SUGO 15 is wider than the 17. The 15 has less depth and height overall though. It’s the “stockier” version of the two. This variant has feet that slightly lift the PC. This may be preferred to some who would like some kind of protection from vibration (if you had the PC on top of your desk for example.) This is a straightforward case. It is a go to for builders of a Mini-ITX gaming PC. The case will fit most 3-slot GPUs and up to a 240mm AIO radiator.

SUGO 17

The SUGO 17 is taller and has more depth. This model allows up to a 360mm radiator. This would benefit anyone who’s looking for maximum CPU cooling inside a Mini-ITX gaming build. This case is similar to the MasterBox NR200 in the way you can access every side through a panel. It’s different in the way that it does not have a main supporting frame. It is very much like a desktop chassis versus the usual Mini-ITX chassis. Of note, this case supports M-ATX boards as well. I feel it blends into the category for gaming mini PC cases.

Bonus – LD03/LD03B-AF (Airflow)

The SilverStone bonus for this list is the LD03-AF. I am less familiar with this case, so all my info comes from online. I found this case very interesting for its look. It has a futuristic look with jagged angles and clean straight edges. It has the style of a vertical desktop chassis with small ITX width proportions. It is one of the largest cases on this list. The case has plenty of removable fan filters for anyone seeking easy (preventative) cleaning. The case has support for many full sized 3-slot GPUs. The system is limited to 120mm size radiators. This is odd for the design and size, but it’s worth noting. Most chassis on this list allow 240/280mm AIO radiators. You should consider this case if you are looking for a small stationery build with a unique style.

Fractal Design Terra

Last on today’s list is the Terra from Fractal Design. I’m a fan of the niche components in the PC industry. This case hits all the vibes of a unique and fun PC build. The case is well known for its wooden accent on the front panel. It looks good with the black, white, and jade green variants of the case. The jade green is an exceptional looking color that is rarely seen amongst PC cases. I love seeing these live in our production area. The side panels can be opened by swinging the panels upwards on a hinge. The top panel pulls out horizontally. All the sides are removable on their own accord. The PC has support for one 2.5” SSD and a bracket for an addition. You can configure the PC with a case fan on the bottom, or work to fit a 120mm AIO. Like plenty of cases on the list, the Terra is built to hold most modern 3-slot GPUs. Notable is a security lock slot on the back of the case. This would benefit any facility looking to stock a computer lab and maintain physical security from theft. This is my favorite case of the current list.

Let me know if there are any Mini-ITX cases that you love! Share any of your builds on our Discord if you want our production team to judge your cable management!
