The X58 chipset has been around for a solid three years now. It is arguably still one of the greatest chipsets Intel has created compared to their Core 2 Duo and Pentium parents. Though there are newer Sandy Bridge and X79 chipsets available, the X58 chipset is still something to consider based on the pricing and overall support for motherboards that have existed since the created of Intel’s X58 chipset. This customer decided upon the X58 for several solid reasons. The 990X extreme processor was a great way to keep compute power to an all-time high; the large Prolimatech CPU heatsink will ensure it stays cool. The SuperComputer motherboard is what makes this configuration possible, with it’s plentiful PCI Express slots and ability to expand. The end-user can rest assured that the GTX 580 SLI setup won’t lack in performance, based on the X58 chipsets affect on GPU performance per PCI Express slot. The storage configuration for this system is massive, with a hot-swap module and RAID, that actually requires a third-party RAID controller to handle all of the storage devices with a SATA III interface. The performance and redundancy capabilities of this machine are outstanding, so don’t let anyone tell you hardware is easily outdated. It is easily replaced, but given the right configuration you can easily use older hardware to get the job done.
